Our Story

Where the coals nevergo cold in Clarens

Fire & Fork was born from a simple South African truth: everything worth remembering happens around a fire. Ours burns at the foot of the Maluti sandstone cliffs, in a village that has always known how to slow down.

We cook the way our grandmothers did — three-legged potjies left to their own patience, mogodu simmered until it surrenders, oxtail rich enough to end an argument — and we plate it the way the moment deserves.

Sit down a guest. Leave family.

After Dark

The loungewakes at sunset

When the mountains turn violet, the room turns gold. Smoked cocktails, low music, deep leather and a fireplace that never quite goes out — Clarens' warmest place to end the day and lose track of it.

They came for dinner. They keep coming back.

The oxtail potjie is the best I have eaten anywhere, and I include my mother's kitchen in that. We drove back to Clarens two weekends later just for it.

We booked for one drink and stayed until closing. The fireplace, the music, the staff — it feels like being at a friend's home that happens to have a great chef.

Mogodu done properly is rare these days. Fire & Fork does it with respect. My family eats here every month without fail.

That ribeye off the coals, with the sun going down behind the sandstone — genuinely one of the best meals of our trip through the Free State.
